I have others, which are worse, which show that the face pattern was similar to yours. Couldn't really see the upperparts as it was in flight only and one a very grey overcast day.MIkePhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14395249105649829937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2412851395882523391.post-35981605716730978042013-05-08T22:36:43.833+01:002013-05-08T22:36:43.833+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Steve Stansfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07504062262140747921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2412851395882523391.post-80224999735585223952013-05-08T22:36:21.873+01:002013-05-08T22:36:21.873+01:00Hi Rob, as Stephen says they do breed in the south...Hi Rob, as Stephen says they do breed in the south in the winter and juvenile birds have been documented in BB occasionally about 20 years ago. If you have a copy of the BBFO reports to hand there is a piece in one about 10 years ago on a swallow x sand Martin in spring. Not too dissimilar to your bird but much smaller and structurally like a sand Martin. Deryk and I trapped a swallow house Martin hybrid in Kent in the early 90s (1991i think) Del may have some pics of that bird.

SteveSteve Stansfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07504062262140747921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2412851395882523391.post-67534485904358987802013-05-08T22:25:52.389+01:002013-05-08T22:25:52.389+01:00A similar bird was seen in flight on Unst at the w...A similar bird was seen in flight on Unst at the weekend. Per Mike Pennington they apparently breed in Southern Spain in winter.Stephen Dunstannoreply@blogger.com
