Turtle Dove at Dinas Dinlle

Simon HR found this bird today which showed well till c.3.30 at least. Take the main coast road west out of Caernarfon. Take the right turn to Dinas Dinlle/ C'fon airport.Follow that road towards the sea/small hill. Just before you reach the sea you will see a field on your right with hay bales in black plastic by a gateway. The bird was in that field. There were 2 Hoodie Hybrids just Inland from Fforyd Bay and there were 2 Goosanders on the River Seiont by the Old Manweb/Scotish Power building.

Long tailed ducks at Valley wetlands

These two 1st year female Long tailed ducks were on Llyn Penrhyn at Valley wetlands today found by the warden Ian Simms. They were showing well from the roadside bus-stop at the side of the lake this lunchtime when I got these shots.

Dusky Warbler in Caernarfonshire

A bird was trapped and ringed this morning at a private site with no access available for the foreseeable which is understandable. I think this is Wales' 7th record and probably the earliest just beating one on Bardsey on 18.10.90.

Pied Wheatear: a visit to Bardsey cut short

A cracking find by Chris Piner this morning.  Pics on the Bardsey blog here: http://bbfo.blogspot.co.uk/

Unfortunately later taken by a sprawk for its Sunday lunch. "(

Barnacles, White fronts and chasing rainbows.

A morning walk started off well with a presumed large family party of 9 Greenland white fronted Geese and 8 Barnacle Geese at Hen Borth. (They were still present this evening). The walk to Carmel Head was less productive with an approachable Golden Plover and 11 fly-over Crossbills being the highlights. A few dozen Mipits, Skylarks and a sprinkling of Chaffinches and Siskins were the only obvious vis-mig. At Cemlyn this evening I spent most of the time chasing rainbows but there was a Red-throated Diver, male Common Scoter and a Black Guillemot in the bay.
