Cemlyn Twite and Fieldfares
I popped over to Cemlyn this morning to throw out more seed on the shingle ridge accessed from the west car park, for the flock of Twite that has been there for a week and was 13 strong on Tuesday. A lark , probably skylark flushed from this area, but it was a bit blustery this morning and as I tried to get onto it my seed pot flew off into orbit! There was a report of a possible Great white egret at Malltraeth near the estuary/salt marsh last week. Driving to work today there were quite a few flocks of Redwings milling around and I had 2 flocks of c. 25 birds each of Fieldfares flying over Llangefni dingle. My first this winter.

I might pop up there tomorrow if the weather's okay. What sort of seed would be good for them? Would my RSPB "Unfussy Sparrow Mix" be to their tatste?
ReplyDeleteSteve I can help out with the seed as part of the Twite project. They are very fond of nyjjer. Kelvin
ReplyDeleteCheers, I was putting down millet, but Nyjjer seed would be more appropriate for their smaller bills and would be much appreciated Kelvin. Did anyone see them today? It was blowing a gale this morning and still is.
ReplyDeleteThanks both. I have some nyjer as well so I'll chuck that about if I make it over.
ReplyDeleteNo sign of the Twite (probably blown away), but lots of Greenshank on the lagoon, plus a kestrel quartering the east side of the bay. Highlight was a Red-throated diver fishing close in on the surf. Pic here, which I don't know how to embed: http://t.co/dzMjMTnZ3w
