Gull-Billed Tern at Ynyslas

The bird seemed to have made a return this morning on the sandy spit off the car park, but was soon flew off and hasn't been reported since. This is a short video from a couple of days ago:

Conwy RSPB, 06.Aug

There were 4 LRP on the reserve/estuary today with 2 juvs on the shallow lagoon and 2 ad on the estuary this evening.  Good no's of Curlew over the high tide and BH Gull roost on deep lagoon is up to around 3-400 at dusk.  7 Dunlin also.
Picking up slowly.

Good start to Autumn

After a nice break off the island, my first day back at work was not too strenuous with the hardest part so far having to catch and ring the first Melodious Warbler of the autumn. There are also good numbers of willow warblers around too.

Gull-billed Tern, Ynyslas 04.Aug

Got down there by 7pm and tide only just turning, no sign of anything and didn't look good especially with a thundery background.  After a bit of a look round a couple of Whimbrel were noisy over the marsh and then a very unfamiliar call came towards us, a deep raucous "wurr-eep" and then it flew overhead landed on the beach and then flew back to from where it had come from.  That was the mouth of the small river mouth about 300m east of the car park.
Managed a couple of phone-scoped shots but the flock of gulls and the tern were flushed by an Osprey and the tern flew back towards the coast but I'm sure it will be back.  It was calling often even when on the deck.

2 ad Meds also on the beach 8pm

Conwy RSPB Sat 04

A great stroll along the estuary track produced a Green Sandpiper calling often and feeding on the estuary and in front of Benarth Hide.  Checking through the Curlew on the estuary a Hobby hunting low caused some disruption among a small flock of House Martin then a juv Yellow Wagtail landed on the estuary having come from the islands on deep lagoon and commuted back and forth but i couldn't nail a pic.  It was definitely not a Cit with green tones but looked more like a juv flava with strong super and bib.  Hopefully someone will be able to photograph it.

Juv Ring Plover on est and juv LRP reported this afternoon.
