After the heads up from Elfyn (many thanks) I headed down to Porthmadoc cob on Sunday at 10.45 - 11.30 which was high tide (and a big one at that) so all the saltmarsh had disappeared. So the birds collect in the small rocky "bay" on the western side of the southern end of the embankment. There were two Water Pipits a few Rock Pipits, Pied Wags, Wheatear, Robins and a dunnock feeding on the high tide mark on all the washed up debris. I managed to photograph the two Water Pipits. One was very nice looking but as expected that was the least confiding of the two birds. However they still showed very well despite the wind and rain!
Both birds present again on this morning's high tide. The brightly plumaged individual was once again keeping his distance but the other individual often came close but unfortunately the sun was in the wrong place for a decent photo. You've done well with the photos above.
ReplyDeleteI've been keeping an eye on this beach on high tides for years now. It should produce a biggie one day.
