Slavonian Grebe, Llay Pool.

First reported at lunchtime today. Managed to get to the pool at 540 this evening and the Slav was still there alongside a great crested. Not sure who found it but this is the first record around Wrexham that I know of. Kev.

  1. Kev. Where is Llay pool? Assumed when saw news it was Gresford Flash

  2. Park rd off the B5102 between Cefn-y-Bedd and Llay. Bird was distant when I found it but soon seemed to favour a patch of water at the southern end within easy view of the roadside.

  3. Great find Duncan. Llay pool is quite close to Mold to Wrexham road as Duncan says. Turn left at the Hollybush pub in Cefn y Bedd if coming from Mold. Immediately after the wooded area there is a tight right turn to Park road. Cracking pool that in the last year has flooded each winter period. Was great for passage waders last spring and has potential for something good. Prone to disturbance but always worth a look If passing.

  5. Nice pics Phil. It's a handy pool to visit en route to my work in Mold, especially in spring when the water recedes and leaves mud. 7 species of wader last spring.
