Black Throated Diver, Rhyl

The Great Northern Diver is now joined by a rather lovely looking Black Throated Diver! Seems to look like a first winter bird! Excellent record for Denbighshire, did go back later this afternoon for a quick scan but couldn't see it but i'm sure it's still there

  1. Arrived early morning at marine lake. To start with I could not see the great northern. After 20 mins I got a very brief view of a diver, thought it looked small then it dived. It re surfaced and immediately the great northern popped up underneath it, attacked it and the diver flew. Was pretty sure it was a black throat in the few seconds it was on view. Took another 30 mins before it showed again to confirm the bird and get news out. A Clwyd tick for me. Amazing how divers can hide on an open lake!

  4. I didn't realise it was seen earlier that morning... although I was puzzled to why it had been put on birdguides soon after.. brilliant find!
