Jan 1st - Conwy team

Despite the atrocious weather during the morning, that nearly forced an early end to the day, a respectable 104 species were logged during our traditional New Year birding race.
Rob Sandham, Mike Duckham, Pete Wood, Henry Cook and I started at 8am at Point of Air and finished at the Four Crosses, Menai Bridge at 5.30pm where we met up with the other teams (I'm sure Steve will be along to gloat later...gggrrrrr!)
Highlights below:-
Point of Air - Merlin, Woodcock, 8 Twite and Snipe.
Rhyl Marine Lake - Great Northern Diver
Horton's Nose - 10 Snow Bunting, Sanderling
Kinmel Industrial Estate - Kestrel and Pheasant, but no Owls :-(
Bodelwydden Castle - Marsh Tit, Nuthatch, Jay and Treecreeper
Llanddulas - Common Scoter, Red throated Diver, Fulmar
Rhos Point - Eider, Kittiwake, Lesser Black backed Gull
Glanwydden Lane - Stock Dove
Conwy RSPB - Firecrest
Beddmanarch Bay - 4 Mediterranean Gulls, Slavonian Grebe, Pale-bellied Brent Goose, Bar tailed Godwit.
Holyhead Harbour - 2 Black throated Divers, Great Northern Diver, 2 Black Guillemot.
A secret location - 2 Ruddy Ducks
Malltraeth - 2 Hen Harriers, at least 1 but possibly 3 Water Pipits, Jack Snipe, 100+ Pintail
At the Four Crosses, while enjoying our pint, we combined our totals and worked out that at least 125 species had been logged in North Wales during the 9 hour bird race, with several fairly regular species (such as Stonechat) not recorded by anyone!
Thanks for a an enjoyable day lads - a great start to the year.
