200 at least recorded so there must be many more out there. Not sure if the 200 reported yesterday in Llandudno was the c100 flock seen twice or a typo but i gather there were probably around 130-160 yesterday. Had a look in Caernarfon this evening but no sign yet- plenty berries though along near Tescos.

I reported the birds at Pentir. I'd guess they'll head for Caernarfon as there aren't many berry bushes in the Pentir area. They were certainly heading in that direction.
ReplyDeleteI thought they were the first waxwings in Gwynedd this winter, but my father claims to have seen some at Port Penrhyn on Friday.
Good stuff Nick. There's a few sites they do turn up around Bangor so they could be hiding somewhere. Trees by the swimming pool were a magnet 2 yrs ago. Could watch them all day- work gets in the way!

They enjoyed the trees around the university that winter too, which is handy for my work. Not sure about the Port Penrhyn ones - my old man's a bit of a stringer!
ReplyDeleteLlandudno was amazing today and I wouldn't argue with anyone who reported 200+ across the town. I was marching in the Remembrance parade late morning and saw and counted many flocks in all parts of the town - 4 in Craig y Don, 100+ B&Q, 80+ Trinity Church, 30+ West Shore, 15 over Mostyn Street, 10+ flying towards Gloddaeth Avenue during the 2 minutes silence - unprecedented numbers. Keep checking those undertail coverts though!
