Anglesey Update - another good day with Bangor Birdgroup.

After a rather damp start and dipping out on the no-show Redhead Smew in Caernarfon "we got back with the programme" and headed onto the island. Benllech produced c.50 Common Scoter, Black Guillimot, RT Diver, Razorbill, Shag, Rock Pipit and Grey Wag. Moelfre had at least 7 GN Diver's, 7 Purple Sands, Grey Plover, Cormorants, Gannet, Guillimot and great views of a close Shag on the rocks. 5 Whooper Swans were in the field on the left when passing the joint houses just after Llanfaethllu on the way to Valley. Slav was in Bedd Bay plus T15 the Danish Black headed Gull and a flyover Little Egret. The highlight here however was the 2 Water Rails feeding under the feeders by the Burger van - ace for photos! Chough and Raven were at South Stack. On the Inland Sea at The Anchorage were PB Brents, c. 2000 Lapwing, Goldeneye, Shoveller and another GND. Scaup is around but not visible here.

Between the A55 and RAF Valley were 7 Eurasian Whitefronts with the 70+ Greylags. Penrhyn produced Red necked Grebe, a few Song Thrushes and a plethora of Wildfowl. Bittern has been here recently. Maelog drew a blank and Coron not much better had 160 Canadas, c.8 Greylags, 30 Fieldfare and a male Pintail amongst the Wigeon. A SE Owl was on birdguides for here but we saw sod all in the SEO dept today. 2 Spot shanks and a shed load of Lapwing were off the Bridge at Malltraeth and we finished on 2 male Hen Harriers in the usual spot at Malltraeth Sands. A good day was had by all!
