Moors and meres
A (very!) early morning start saw JR and myself peering through the mist at World's End looking for black grouse and despite the gloomy conditions we eventually managed to view 3 while sitting quietly in the car. A red grouse flew across the track at one point and a few red legged partridge were near the car park. The fog put paid to any hope of finding the great grey shrike that's been seen here, we couldn't even see the trees never mind a shrike!
We continued on to Burton Mere Wetlands where an adult spoonbill was on show infront of the visitor centre while 4 avocets and 3 spot reds were seen from the marsh hide.
On to Parkgate Baths where another spoonbill, a juv, was on one of the flashes and a 10-minute raptor show gave us short eared owl, peregrine, sprawk and merlin.
