Anglesey this week
A visiting birder contacted me this week to say he had been birding on the island last weekend. He told me he had had a Male Red backed Shrike on Gorse bushes at the end of the cob Embankment last Sunday! He went back on Monday but there was no sign. However there were 2 Avocets on the Pool and a Dipper on the Afon Cefni there! Philip Snow said the Avocets were still there on Wednesday but I had a a quick look at lunchtime today with no joy. So they had either gone or were sitting down in the grass out of sight from the road. Ken's had the odd Pom off the South Stack area this week. Cemlyn has just the one adult Med Gull in the colony with lots of Sandwich, Common and Arctic Terns. Today there were 2 Sum Plum Purple Sands, 2 Sanderling and 50 Turnstone. I had a Tree Pipit yesterday and David found an interesting Sylvia warbler subsinging from dense blackthorn cover (?Subalpine?) but unfortunately it never showed so couldn't be positively identified umfortunately. A bonxie was off Rhosneigr this am (Chris Lane). Zac had a Glossy Ibis at dawn last Sunday at Malltraeth RSPB and there have been a few SEOwls knocking around over the last week.
