Fantastic start to May

Another fantastic day. We have just done log and have todays conservative totals. Some of the birds were passing straight through without stopping. We trapped over 100 birds in the obs garden, only four were recaptured during the day, and only two were trapped further north up the island (where a further 50 birds were ringed).
The totals of migrants were:
Whimbrel 82, White Wagtail 27, Tree Pipit 7, Swallow 757, Red-Rumped Swallow 1 (north at 1130), House Martin 39, Whinchat 4, Redstart 10, Stonechat 16 (including a possible rubicola), Wheatear 454 (90%+ were Greenland birds), Blackcap 145, Whitethroat 18, Lesser Whitethroat 4, Willow Warbler 213, Chiffchaff 34, possibly two tristis/fulvescens  type Chiffchaffs (one trapped, the other pictured below), Spotted Flycatcher 5, Common Redpoll 1 (possible trapped)

 Smart Male Whinchat
 Greenland Wheatear

 White Wagtails
 Spotted Flycatcher

 Blackcaps Everywhere!
 tristis/fulvescens type Chiffchaff
Redpoll - possibly one of the 'Common' types from the previous day
and finally a nice easy Lesser Whitethroat
Not bad at all.
