Blue-winged teal
Joined JR and Carl to go over to the border to BMW for the blue-winged teal that had been reported early morning. Nice to find the bird on show straight away from the reception centre. My second bw teal here having seen one in the late 70s. I believe it later relocated to IMF. A male garganey was playing hide and seek in the same area of rushes while at least 7 smart spot reds were present. Had a look at Shotwick Fields on way back but only a few white wags around and likewise the marshy pond area in Greenfield by Coed Mawr market held mainly white wags but c60 here. Caught up with a few migrants at the warren at Point of Ayr with a male redstart, whitethroat and wheatears on show. Finally had 2 singing blackcaps at Rhuddlan NR.

Spent the whole working day wondering whether it would stick.
ReplyDeleteThankfully it did and when I got there it was on Border Pool in the same scope view as a drake garganey. Cracking bird now on my Clwyd list as well.
