North Wales Wildlife Trust 50th Anniversary Bird Race 18/5/13 Dear All The day of the Race is nearly upon us, and it’s now time to step forward and sign up… In case you haven’t heard about this event yet – it’s a once in a lifetime celebration of NWWT reserves, in the form of a 24hr Bird Race, recording birds (and butterflies if you like) on our sites across N Wales. Teams and individuals can record in any of the reserves within one of 3 geographical regions (The East, The West and Anglesey). If you’re thinking of taking part in some form or another (there’s no obligation for all teams to do the whole ‘dawn-to-dusk’ thing), we need to know in the next few weeks. If you’ve already constituted yourselves as a team, please let us know who’s who, and also give yourselves a team name. We can then send you a recording form and info on the sites etc (it would be a good idea to familiarize yourselves with the sites you’re likely to visit in advance). Cofnod will be helping to collect the data. Things are already shaping up for quite a contest, with some of N Wales’ top birders confirmed as participants. There are also plenty of us lesser mortals signed up, some of whose competitive streaks are starting to kick in, and others whose sheer enthusiasm may well carry them through the day. Of course many will be competing for the honour of the biggest list, but others may score highly in other important categories, such as Best-dressed team Best packed lunch Least expected species for site Best excuse for not taking part (awarded in absentia) Best bobble-hat Can I please again make a plea to pass the message on about this event to anyone you think might be interested. It would be a shame for people to miss out just because they hadn’t heard about it. If you, or someone you know, is keen to take part but is not yet part of a team – again, please let us know and we may be able to join you up with others for the big day. Once everyone’s signed up, I will contact all the teams with confirmation of the rules, and also of the venue for the post-race get together on the 19th (at the moment we are thinking about somewhere Conwy-ish?)
