Waxwings in Denbigh

I counted 68 in the flock reported along Parc Alafowlia this morning.  They were demolishing a contoneaster hedge!  You can see their progress working left to right!

And then onto a friends' farm where they have 10 Brambling and the same Tree Sparrow.  Put up some boxes so hope to monitor the latter this summer and keep you posted on progress.

  2. Great stuff Rob. Good to know Tree Sparrows are still hanging on in places in the county.

  3. 50 still this p.m. when flushed by dog walker at 15:45 & didn't return. One colour ringed bird with light green over dark green on left leg. Couldn't nail left leg

  4. Absolutely fantastic Waxwing photos Rob - I've never seen such a good example of them systematically removing the berries along a hedge!

I still haven't seen Waxwing this winter (having hoped and failed to find one locally) so may have to make the trip eastwards...

  5. We have been watching the wax wings for about the last 10 days or so. They started stripping the berries off next doors Rowan tree which greatly annoyed the resident Mistle Thrush. They then moved on to our hedge and after that started demolishing the hedge across the road, they are very methodical in the way they move along the hedge as they eat the berries. They disappear about 4.30pm off to their roost and then arrive back about 8.00am ish.
